Objectives of the Program

The objective of the Master's program in Computer Engineering is to generate advanced creators and managers of innovation projects through the use of technological methods, techniques and tools, as well as design models and good engineering practices in order to generate computer products and services. This program is aimed at:

• Professionals and executives of public and private institutions working in the area of computer science.
• Professionals with experience who want to update and expand their knowledge and technical skills in computing.
The program of Master in Computer Engineering is integrated with the program of Specialty in Software Engineering, which enables a student to obtain the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering and / or the Degree of Specialist in Software Engineering according to her/his interest in professional development and academic performance.

Graduate profile

The graduate of the Master's program in Computer Engineering is a professional capable of creating and leading projects for the development of computer products and services used within the production and government system. The profile includes advanced conceptual management (higher knowledge and specialization) around methods, techniques, good practices and engineering models applied to the domain of design and implementation of computer solutions.

Admission requirements

The applicant must have a professional degree or degree related to Information Technology or Engineering awarded by Chilean or foreign higher education institutions duly validated and / or legalized before the Ministry of Education. Accredit at least 1 year of experience in computer jobs through a letter of recommendation from a computer professional.

1º semester

DATABASES

This course covers content revision and generation of professional competences for the design and implementation of databases. It is also complemented by the revision of Business Intelligence (BI) and Datawarehouse (DW) techniques and tools. (Professor: Dr. Ania Cravero and Dr. Roberto Espinosa).
MANAGEMENT OF COMPUTER PROJECTS
This course covers the revision of content and generation of professional competences in project engineering, emphasizing the techniques of estimation and planning of computer projects. (Professor: Mg. Jorge Díaz).

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

This course covers the revision of content and generation of professional competences in techniques of object orientation, CASE tools, design of applications and technological platforms of development. (Professor: Dr. Carlos Cares).
SPECIALIZATION ELECTIVE I.

The electives of specialty are different each semester, among them the following can be mentioned:

2º semester

PRODUCCIÓN DE SOFTWARE

This course covers the revision of content and generation of professional competences for the development of business software applications with an emphasis on architectural oriented to service, according to the latest tools and technologies. It is complemented by the revision of framework and mobile applications. (Professor: Dr. Carlos Cares).
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
This course covers the revision of contents and generation of professional competences for the design and formalization of organizational processes with tools and techniques for process improvement and automation (Workflow). It is complemented by the BPMN review and process simulation. (Professor: Mg. Jorge Díaz and Mg Daniel Endara).


SPECIFICATION OF REQUIREMENTS

This course covers the revision of contents and generation of professional competences for the analysis of organizational systems and reinforce aspects related to education, techniques and tools for the representation and specification of Software requirements, as well as the elements of the management and traceability of requirements in The life cycle of a Software project. (Professor: Dr. Samuel Sepúlveda).
ELECTIVE THESIS PROJECT I

3º semester

SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE

This course covers the revision of contents and generation of professional competences in the design of structural solutions of a software product / service. Also considered is the revision of the dominant architectures and technologies associated to the development of software directed by models. (Professor: Dr. Ricardo Gacitúa).

QUALITY AND SECURITY

This course covers the revision of contents and generation of professional competences to develop audits and computer plans with reference to quality models (CMMI, ISO, SIX SIGMA). In addition, it is covers the revision of systems and norms of information security in Public and Private Institutions. (Professor: Dr. Carlos Cares and guest lecturers).

SYSTEM MODELING

This course covers the revision of content and generation of professional competences in modeling techniques and tools of different contexts (intelligent systems, design patterns, software factory, mobile systems), in addition considers the revision of reference models to comprehend widely the impact of The information technology in the results of the business processes. (Professor: Dr. Samuel Sepúlveda and guest lecturers).

Instructional model

The format of the program will be in b-learning mode, which means that students will have hands-on workshops and face-to-face assessments, in addition to using e-learning tools and interactive video room (video streaming) to support the training process. The classes will be taught from Monday to Thursday, from 17:00 to 19:00 hours, the classes can be in remote presential mode for students outside the region.

The program has one semester of subjects of basic competences and three additional semesters to obtain the master's degree. The Thesis of Degree will be a project of innovation TIC realized in the company or a research project applied to the industry.

Areas of professional development

Area of Modeling of Systems. This area considers the specification and modeling of computer systems, deals with real world problems for the functions and constraints of computer systems. It is an interdisciplinary area and considers the education of requirements, the modeling and analysis of the requirements, the communication of these. It is complemented by the revision of techniques and tools for data modeling and different types of computer systems.

Software Architecture. This area covers the design and implementation of software architectures and new technological platforms, considers the highest level design of the structure of a system. This area is related to the representation and composition of software systems. In this context, software design is proposed as a conciliatory activity between the requirements of the problem, in terms of a function, and the feasibility of a solution in terms of a software system. The basic idea is to obtain a broad, complete and human vision of the software.

Computer Management Area. This area covers project management, process improvement and automation considering quality and safety models. It includes the revision of methods and techniques for estimating and costing projects, the operational implementation of improvement for administrative processes associated with the organization's tasks and the revision of quality models (CMMI, ISO, SIX SIGMA).
